a weekend by the jurassic coast

Hello (and Happy New Year)! It’s still the first week of the year so I think I’m just in time to be able to say that… I initially started drafting this post last week before the New Year but my perfectionist ways had me procrastinating for a few days. Anyone else?

In a nutshell, this post features some of my favourite photos I’ve taken but it took me a very long time to work out how best to edit them. I played around with a lot of different edits and I’m sure I will change my mind again. But- before I do, here is a photo diary of my weekend by the Jurassic Coast in early December.

Looking for somewhere to stay?

If you’re looking to stay down the road from the sea, I recommend Limestone Hotel (seaside room pictured) or their sister hotel, Lulworth Lodge if you want to be even closer.

Overall, there isn’t too much to do in the area apart from walks and the choice of restaurants is somewhat limited - but one place that is worth a visit is Castle Inn pub. I would literally go back just for their rosemary-baked Camembert.

I personally find a trip to the coast in Winter to be refreshing and for it to improve my overall wellbeing. Also - the golden hour light?! Stunning. Even if it only lasts for a little while.

Given the sun doesn’t rise until quite late in the morning, instead of waking up at 4am to catch a sunrise, you can get up at 7 (ish) which makes it more manageable overall. Below is a photo of when the sun hit Man of War bay perfectly at 8:23am. The eagle-eyed upon you may also have spotted a very faint rainbow on the right-hand side. Watching a sunrise (or sunset) is one of those small pleasures for me and the accumulative effect of these moments makes a genuine difference to my days. So here’s to more in 2022!

On a completely unrelated note, I used some of my spare time earlier this week to very slightly redesign parts of my website and blog. The end goal was to make my portfolio clearer and make my blog more accessible (i.e. splitting posts between categories) so any feedback is v much welcome. :)

Thanks for reading.
