a hotel experience at home

After a long Winter in London (and majority of the UK), I’m sure anyone reading this is craving that away-from-home and/or hotel experience. There’s still a little while until that feeling becomes a reality for most…so, I’ve tried to bring it to my home instead and thought I’d share my tips on how you can do the same.

Alternatively, if you’re someone who is a little nervous about post-lockdown life and would prefer to stay in your comfort zone (aka home) a little longer, this post is also for you. Or if you just need to practice a little more self-care, keep reading!

Whilst my tips don’t quite offer a sea-view (unless you’re lucky enough to live by the coast!), I still believe you can make the best of a situation…or at least try.

Fresh bedding

Let’s be real — the best part of entering a hotel room is seeing a big, beautifully-made bed that feels like you’re laying in clouds. So, for me, the first step is making sure you invest in good quality bedding that lasts. Or just give your current bedsheets a wash because you can’t quite beat that fresh sheets feeling.

Last year, I treated myself to some linen bedding after obsessing over so many gorgeous Pinterest bedrooms. If you get past the fact that it creases at the blink of an eye, it really does feel luxurious!

Everyday details

This one is straight-forward but often overlooked. There are so many everyday joys that I bet you took for granted pre-Covid. All you need to do is take a few of your favourite things and simply make time for them. For me, that usually includes lighting a candle (I am a little obsessed so I usually have different scents for each season) and listening to music. My mood tends to vary between two extremes of Spotify playlists - either “easy 00’s” or “hip-hop club party”!

Comforts

This is another straight-forward one but one that I hugely appreciate. Loungewear. All day, everyday. A lot of us have adapted to a home-office lifestyle for more than a year now so it may be that your loungewear game is already pretty strong. Regardless, grab your favourite PJs and banish any jeans or shoes!

Breakfast in bed

The final step is to embrace having a slow start to your morning and switch off as best you can, with a cuppa in bed. You could also go one step further and mimic a breakfast-in-bed-room-service-type scenario. But it really depends on how much crumbs in the bed bother you…

at-home staycation

I’ve adapted all of the above in some shape or form over the last year such that it’s become bit of a Sunday ritual. It’s encouraged me to take a little time for myself and really, that’s what you do when you’re booking a holiday. So, it’s hopefully a habit I’ll continue post-lockdown too.

Thanks for reading and I hope I’ve convinced you a staycay feeling in your own home is totally possible!
