A Charming Wiltshire Cottage Retreat
Last month I had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful Spring Water cottage* in Wiltshire and completely fell in love with the idea of living in a countryside home.
I arrived with very little knowledge about the cottage and a little bit unsure of what to expect. Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by its charm and style. The interiors were SO beautiful — from the colours to the furnishings, the whole space was so warm and inviting and felt as though I was looking at a perfectly curated Pinterest board. It’s a place I’d love to revisit in the future, and one that’s sure to inspire anyone with an appreciation for countryside homes and interiors.
You can find the link to book the cottage at the end of this post!
How to Get to Spring Water Cottage in Wiltshire
If you’ve been following my content for a while, you’ll know that I love a place that is easy to access without a car. So I was very excited to find that the cottage is just a short trip from London by train and taxi.
You can take a train direct from London Paddington station to Pewsey station (or you can choose a slightly longer indirect service) with total travel time around 1.5 to 2 hours. From here, you can walk to the village where you’ll find a small high street with shops and cafes. Or you can organise a taxi straight from the station to the cottage which takes approximately 15 minutes. I’d recommend pre-booking this in advance for both journeys to and from the cottage as the number of taxis are very limited!
However, if you’re planning to explore more of the surrounding countryside, it’s probably best for you to drive to the cottage or book a rental car from just £50 for 3 days!
What to Expect During Your Stay at Spring Water Cottage
The cottage sleeps up to 4 people (+2 kids) in the main house or up to 6 (+2 kids) in the summer if you book the annex in the garden too. There are two double-bed rooms, a single bunk bed and there is also room for one baby.
There is a 3-night minimum stay but it’s such a dreamy space, it’s totally worth it and you’ll want to stay longer! Prices start from £350 a night so between 4 people, it works out to be £87.50 per person per night.
There are two beautiful living areas: one featuring a wood-burner fireplace, bookshelves stocked with books, and a smart TV for relaxing evenings. The other is a brighter space, offering the ideal spot for a morning cuppa.
The kitchen is well-equipped with everything needed to prepare delicious, comforting meals. It also features an AGA, so during the colder months, you can relax in living room by the fire while your dinner slow-cooks in the AGA. You can order food delivery straight to the cottage e.g. from Waitrose.
The laundry/boot room is also incredibly aesthetic whilst offering a practical space for your washing.
I’d recommend packing a pair of slippers because the floors can be a bit chilly!
The gorgeous standalone bathtub is perfect for a relaxing soak after a day spent exploring the nearby countryside.
There is no phone reception inside the cottage (and very little in the garden) but there is high-speed WiFi you can connect to immediately.
No pets are allowed.
What to do in Wiltshire and near Spring Water Cottage
The house is surrounded by the beautiful English countryside so you should pack your walking boots and enjoy the fresh air. You can also walk 15-mins to nearby Planks Farm Shop to stock up on local produce or stop for a kitchen lunch in their café. I didn’t get time to do this but it looked very cute.
My stay was a working one so it didn’t leave me much time to explore the surroundings but the host has a guide book with plenty of ideas of things to do locally including nearby walks and pubs - see below for their recommendations.
A few ideas of things to do in Wiltshire and near the cottage include:
Take a scenic 30-minute walk through the countryside for a local pub lunch.
Explore antiques and vintage finds at Digger and Mojo’s emporium.
Stroll through the indigo-carpeted woodlands of Erlestoke Woods during bluebell season.
For a delightful lunch, head to Pythouse Kitchen Garden and enjoy the charm of its 18th-century walled garden.
Or indulge in fresh seafood at the canalside At The Marina restaurant in Devizes.
Just a short drive from the cottage, Avebury’s impressive Neolithic stone circles offer a fascinating alternative to Stonehenge.
