One Night in Brighton: A Mini Guide
At the start of the month, I took a short one-night trip to Brighton for a seaside trip from London. As Brighton is just an hour away from London by train, it’s an ideal escape from the city when you’re craving some fresh sea air and a change of scene. I stayed in partnership with Artist Residence Brighton*, a boutique hotel I’ve loved for years - you might remember my recent stay at their Penzance property if you’ve been following along with my recent content.
Brighton is such a vibrant seaside town and there is plenty to do - including vintage shops, cute local cafes and coastal walks. In this mini guide, I’m sharing my favourite things to do, eat, and see for a one-night stay in Brighton.
*There was no obligation to share this post on my blog, I just really love this hotel!
Staying at Artist Residence Brighton
The Artist Residence brand is one I’ve loved for a long time. I first discovered them when I stayed at their Oxfordshire hotel for a summer stay years ago. Since then, I’ve visited both their Cornwall and Brighton properties. Each location feels wonderfully unique, blending vintage furniture with modern, bold and eclectic design.
Artist Residence Brighton is perfectly located just a short walk from Brighton station, making it an easy getaway by train and many of the rooms offer beautiful sea views. I was very lucky to stay in their one of their spacious balcony sea view rooms - starting my day with a coffee and sea view was a true treat.
If you're looking for a boutique hotel with character and sea views, Artist Residence Brighton is a perfect choice. It’s ideal for a romantic getaway, a solo escape or mini break with friends.
A few more things to know about staying at Artist Residence…
The hotel is home to the Clubhouse, a relaxed cafe that is also a bar and restaurant in the evenings (remember to book a table in advance!). It’s the perfect spot for breakfast or brunch (highly recommend the pancakes), or an evening cocktail after a day exploring.
It’s a short walk from the Lanes, Brighton Pier, and some of the town’s best shops, cafes, and vintage stores. Whether you want to explore or just relax by the sea, everything you need is close by.
There’s a real focus on comfort too - the rooms come with cosy dressing gowns, slippers, coffee machines and some even have beautiful standalone bathtubs for ultimate relaxation.
Rooms typically start from around £150 - £250 per night depending on the season. Book as far as possible in advance for better rates and keep an eye out for any offers on the hotel’s website.
Things to do in and near Brighton
While you can easily do a day trip from London to Brighton, if you’re craving a slightly longer adventure, I recommend staying for one night. You’ll have time for an early morning beach walk in or a scenic adventure along the Sussex coastline, including a trip to Seven Sisters cliffs.
A few of my favourite spots in and near Brighton:
Walk along the Brighton Pier for a classic UK seaside view.
Wander around The Lanes for lots of independent shops and cafes. A few of my favourites include Workshop Coffee Lab, DOWSE, Papersmiths, Utility and Bert’s Homestore.
Spend time getting lost in Snoopers Paradise - a huge vintage store with hundreds of pre-loved items from old records, clothes and furniture.
Go for a walk through the Royal Pavilion Gardens
For a more adventurous day trip, take the bus towards Eastbourne, which leads you to the start of the Seven Sisters hike. The full hike can be challenging in parts due to the steady inclines and descents, you don’t need to do the whole thing to enjoy it - there are plenty of shorter, scenic options if you prefer a more relaxed day out. For the classic postcard view, head to the Coastguard Cottages at Cuckmere Haven.
Best places to eat Brighton
There are SO many food spots I’d saved on my list to try out in Brighton but of course couldn’t get through them all in one trip. Here is my list for some inspiration for your trip:
Artist Residence Clubhouse - even if you’re not staying here, I recommend visiting for brunch as the pancakes are SO delicious
Food For Friends - a delicious vegetarian restaurant that I visited on a previous trip to Brighton
Flour Pot Bakery - a Brighton favourite, known for its pastries and delicious coffee
Komodo Coffee - a very lovely coffee shop perfect to recharge halfway through the day
A couple that are on my list for my next trip:
Starfish and Coffee - a vibrant cafe, ideal for a hearty brunch
Reading Room - a beautiful cafe ideal for a leisurely meal or coffee break
Brighton is a lovely mix of seaside relaxation, vibrant shopping, and incredible food - making it the ideal spot for a short weekend getaway from London. You can enjoy leisurely mornings at Artist Residence or explore the best of Brighton’s local spots. I hope this mini guide helps you make the most of your time in Brighton and provides some inspiration for your next seaside adventure!
